Mr. And Mrs. Edwin Stanton Bartleson, of Spotsylvania county, announce the coming wedding of their daughter, Miss Eva, to Mr. Leonard F. Pierson. The wedding to take place in the early fall. (Daily Star :3, Reported 1918.09.14) PIERSON-BARTLESON - Fredericksburg Attorney Takes Spotsylvania Bride–Wedded in Christ Church, Alexandria - At high noon today in Alexandria, at historic Christ Episcopal Church, Miss Eva Bartleson, of Spotsylvania county, and Mr. Leonard F. Pierson, of this city, were united in marriage by the Rev. William J. Morton, rector of the church. - Mr. Pierson is the son of Mr. C. H. Person, of Chestnut Valley, in upper Caroline county, who is of English birth and enjoys the distinction of holding degrees from both Oxford and Cambridge, his family being that of the Piersons of Stokealey Manor in Yorkshire. The groom’s mother was Miss Lucy Fitzhugh Dickinson, the youngest daughter of the late William I. Dickinson, a noted and wealthy planter of Caroline county in his day. - The bride is also of British descent, being the daughter of Mr. Edwin S. Bartleson, a prominent farmer of Spotsylvania county, and a descendent of a noted English family. Her mother was Anna Cora Pulliam, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Pulliam, a well known family of Spotsylvania county. - Mr. Pierson is a law graduate of the University of Virginia and Valparaiso, Indiana, and his preparatory education was at Harrowgate, Yorkshire, England. He is a successful attorney, having practiced law here for several years as a member of the Fredericksburg bar. - Upon their return from a bridal trip Mr. and Mrs. Pierson will reside at “Argyle,” in Stafford county, about one and one half miles below this city, on the Rappahannock river, recently purchased by Mr. Pierson. - Mr. Pierson will continue the practice of law here at his office in the Law Building. Former Kenmore aide is 90 Eva Pierson says goodbye - At the age of 90, Eva Pierson is making the farthest move of her life. - Oh, in 1938, there was a move from “Chesnut Valley,” near Corbin, to Fredericksburg. Then, she went from one Fredericksburg residence to the house at 311 Fauquier St.where she has resided for 26 years. - But Wednesday morning, after packing up the treasures accumulated over the decades–a black walnut piano from Stuttgart, Germany, a carved mantel piece, paintings by family artists–she left the area she has know all her life for Kennett Square, Pa. - In Kennett Square, a picturesque town about half the size of Fredericksburg, Mrs. Pierson will reside with her daughter, Marjorie Pierson Marvin. - Mrs. Pierson, well-known in Fredericksburg for her work at Kenmore, served as assistant to the executive secretary there for 37 years. For a good portion of that time, she worked with the shrine’s longtime executive secretary, Mrs. H. H. Smith–familiarly known as “Miss Annie.” On behalf of Kenmore, the pair took numerous trips in various states, with regents and officers of the Kenmore Association entertaining them. Amont those entertaining, Mrs. Pierson recalls, was one-time Kenmore president, Louise duPont Crowninshield of Delaware. Mrs. Pierson took charge of Kenmore’s gift shop as well. She retired in 1970. - In addition to her work at Kenmore, Mrs. Pierson belonged to St. George’s Episcopal Church. Her late husband, Leonard F.
